YES YES, A MILLION TIMES YES, WAL-MART BOARDS SUCK, AND YOU NEED SOME FLAT BOTTEMED SKATE SHOES! Here, Let me introduce you to Skateboarding. Skateboarding isn’t a sport, And a Skateboard isn’t something you just buy like a toy and ride around. Skateboarding is very complex, Involves alot of tricks, And takes some creativity to make you’re own tricks. First off, STAY AWAY From Boards From : WalMart, KMart, Target, Modells, Sports Stors, Toys R Us, E-Bay, And Stores like that. Only buy Skateboards from Specialty shops N Stuff. Their are 4 Parts To A Skateboard. The Deck, Trucks, Wheels, And Bearings (And Griptape And Mouting Hardware. You don’t always have to buy a Skateboard already put together and by the same brand all around, actually, not alot of people do that at all. Just find a local Skateshop, and ask to Customize A "Complete" A Complete is a whole skateboard, And you can Customize one by Just picking different parts off the shelf. Their are Diffrences In just about every Skateboard. In Deck, the main difference is the Concave, thats How much curve the board has on each end. In The Trucks (The metal parts that hold the wheels) The main difference is Weight And Height. In Wheels (Not Tires), Its the size, and softness. In Bearings, Its the ABEC, which is the scale of how fast they roll, And How far you’ll get with one push compared to a push with different bearings. The Griptape doesn’t really matter, Nor does the mounting hardware. Some Good Brand Are :
For Decks : Baker, Enjoi, Flip, Speed Demons (I’m using one currently), Blackout, Almost, Toy Machine, Goodwood, Mini Logo, Listen!, Zero, Girl, Foundation (Made the Worlds largest Skateboard once), Chocolate, ATM, Alien Workshop, And More…
For Trucks : Indpendent, Tensor (I’m Using Them Now), Venture, Royal, Thunder, Ruckus, And More…
For Wheels : Spitfire (I’m Using Them Now), Ricta, Bones, Hubba (My Favorite), And MANY More…..
For Bearings : Sawblade, Element, Destructo (I’m Using Them Now), Bones Reds (Considered The Best, And They’re The Most Commonly Used And Mostly Highly Recommended), And More…
So When you finally have Your Board, Your Gonna Want Skate Shoes. Some Good Skate Shoes Are : Lakai, Etnies (Really Popular, I’m Using Em Now), DC, Globe, Adio (I Hate Them!), Vans, Es, And Many More. You can buy Both Skate Shoes And Skateboards At Zumiez, Which is a specialty Skate shop that you’ll find in most Malls. After you have your board and shoes, Youre Gonna want To Learn Some Tricks. Try these In Order, And Look Em Up if you don’t know them :
    Ollie
    Shove It
    Pop Shove It
    KickFlip
    Frontside 180
    Backside 180
    Frontside Flips
    Varial Kickflips
    Heelflips
    Tre Flips
You can also gain alot of knowledge of Skateboarding and get more into it and see the point of it and why people do it by watching Skate Videos (Lakai’s Fully Flared Is One Of The Best Out Their), Going out to Local Skate spots, and Going up to Skater’s And hangin out with them And Asking them stuff, You can find them In public most of the time. I Hope I Helped, Have a Great Time Dude.

My bro and all his skater freinds started out when they were young with cheap boards and just shoes. It made a huge improvement when they started building their own boards. They all wear circa, DC, etnie, etc… shoes and 3 of them have sponsors now. So yeah go buy a really good bored and practice like crazy. Good Luck!!!

  3. BAKER SK8ER Says:

i cant argue with callie’s answer, she is completely correct save up about $150 and go customize your board on blackholeboards.com utilityboardsupply.com ccs.com get vans or circa skate shoes they hold up very well and dont wear out as easily as dc or adio

  4. fitzy3194 Says:

yes it mostly does. for instance, before with my ok-ok board i coulnd’t ollie. but when i started mixing and matching parts from different boards, i got the ollie down. for starters, learn how to ride. then after that make your own board combination and start trying tricks. also for shoes, you want skateshoes, and it doesnt really matter what grip, just make it comfortable for ya. i use ipath and i love them!!

  5. taylorg9393 Says:

well you can’t skate that well in flip-flops haha XD

  6. remlapsx4 Says:

it changes it kind of it would help if you had a real board it has more pop and properly last longer but that’s my thinking

  7. Dakota Says:

go get a custom complete at your local skateshop. ask them what they recommend, as they do skate. As for shoes, anything flat bottom for a beginner, but as you start wanting to do tricks, you will want some actual skate shoes. good brands are lakai, emerica, nike sb, fallen, and etnies, they all have their pros and cons, but i love all those brands. hope this helped!

you dont need to spend like a million dollars on a pair of d*c or vans.ive been skating for a year, and at walmart they sell shoes called"airspeed" they lasted me forever.but later i got a pair and the heel stuck out and carving didnt feel the same anymore.converse are good shoes for the most part depends on the shoe.im wearing a pair of converse when i skate.after about a week they feel pretty great. are you bowl riding or street skating?
