What is the difference between these 2 skateboard wheels?

My boyfriend has two sets of skateboard wheels. One kind has really fine ridges on the actual part where the wheel touches the ground, and the other kind is perfectly smooth. Both are almost brand new. I know about hardness levels and all that, all I want to know are what the ridges are for versus flat wheels. Dont spam this please.

Adrian pretty much summed it up. But wheels with ridges will have better traction for a week or two, and they are better for vert skaters because they won’t slip out or slide as much. Flat wheels will slide, making them better for street because the skater can kinda force the board to pivot when a trick doesn’t rotate all the way.

Most wheels come with ridges at the bottom when they’re brand new, but after you start using them ridges get worn down and the wheel becomes flat. They don’t serve any special purpose and you wont feel a difference between the two, pretty much after you use them once or twice the ridges pretty much get worn down and disappear.

Ridges are there for more traction. It maybe for more control.
